Perhaps the most unique among Brunswick county’s gems is Bald Head Island Golf Club. The island is only accessible by boat. But, there’s a ferry that leaves nearby Southport on a regular basis. The only cars (and trucks) on the island are those needed for services. All other transportation is managed by golf carts and bicycles. 

The golf course is as stunning as one might imagine. There are 18 amazing holes that  original designer, George Cobb allowed to meander among the dunes, lagoons, grasses and trees along the ocean.  The course was recently renovated by Tim Cate. Links magazine rated it the second best renovation in the country just behind the legendary renovation of Pinehurst No. 2. 

There’s plenty of golf here for everyone. The low handicappers will enjoy the challenge, and higher handicappers will find the course very playable from the forward tees.
